Former Buffalo Bills quarterback Jack Kemp passed away on May 2nd after battling cancer. He was 73. Kemp died a little after 6:00pm last night surrounded by his family and pastor. Kemp went into politics after his football career and served 9 terms in Congress before running for Vice President on Bob Dole's ticket in 1996.
I had the pleasure of having lunch with Jack Kemp in 1993 in Tampa, Florida. He spent over an hour with several friends and I and we really got to know the man that was Jack Kemp. This was a man that had a real heart for people and a strong faith in his beliefs. He wanted to get beyond partisan politics and make a difference peoples lives.
The football community and our country lost a great man. MyTeamRivals.com sends condolences to his family and loved ones.

Earlier this week, NFL legend John Madden announced his retirement from the broadcast booth. For the past thirty years, Madden has entertained millions of NFL fans with his unique slant on football. Who could forget his pattented "boom!" everytime something exciting happened on the field, his insane, but funny use of the telestrater, or his pure and genuine love for the game which came through loud and clear.
Madden was informative and entertaining. Too many current broadcasters are too "corporate" and display no passion for the game. They are boring! Others do a poor mans version of John Madden which tends to come across as insincere.
Madden was an original and will be missed.
His retirement, thankfully, has nothing to do with health reasons, but rather because he simply wanted to spend more time with his Grandchildren. (Although I think it a bit coincidental that he retired the same year as Brett Favre----Madden had a well know "man crush" on Favre---I am kidding).
We at myteamrivals.com wish him all the best and will miss him in the booth!
Remember to check out our NFLDraft coverage!!!
MyTeamRivals.com is saddened by the passing of Harry Kalas today. Harry was one of the greatest broadcasters in the history of the game and his 38 years calling Philadelphia Phillies games will be remembered forever.
Kalas collapsed before the Phillies game today in the broadcast booth and passed away at the age of 73. He will never be replaced.
Our thoughts and prayers are with his wife and three sons as well as his Phillies family and the millions of fans that loved him. We will miss you Harry. You were the best. You were the voice of Philadelphia.
For more check out Phightin' Phils Phorum.
MyTeamRivals.com sends our heart filled condolence's to the family of Nick Adenhart, pitcher for the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, after a tragic hit and run accident that took his life this morning. Adenhart made the team after pitching well in Spring Training and impressing manager Mike Scioscia. He made his first start os 2009 on Wednesday night.
The driver of the mini van that struck two cars fled the scene but was later apprehended. He faces felony hit and run charges.
Adenhart pitched 6 shut out innings in what was his fourth and sadly final major league start. What a terrible loss for his family, friends, and teammates. Our thoughts and prayers are with all of his loved ones.

Happy Birthday MyTeamRivals.com. May your second year be as big of a success and filled with as much growth as your first!
Tomorrow is the big day. MyTeamRivals.com turns 1 year old. It is hard to believe that it has only been a year since Mike and I sat down hashing out ideas, names, etc of what MyTeamRivals.com would be. For any of you long time readers, you remember looking at some really ugly pages. You suffered through as we experimented and I am sure noticed when we made a few mistakes.
Our original plan with MyTeamRivals was to give fans a place where they could go and write or read about their favorite teams free of charge and without bias. The opinions here are only those of fans. Agree with them, disagree with them, they are the voice of you, the real sports fan.
From starting with two sites, Phightin' Phils Phorum and Mr Mets Daily, to now having 78, MyTeamRivals.com has had an incredible first year. We have added an additional partner as Rich joined us in July and our vision for 2009 is bigger than ever. We want to cover every team in every major sport including MLB, NFL, NHL, NBA, NCAA, PGA, etc. We want fans to have a place where they can come get insight they can't get anywhere else. We want to provide aspiring writers a place where they can write for free and maybe even earn a little money as they rant about their favorite teams and their rivals.
We want to thank the 29 writers that contribute to our sites now. We are successful because of you. We appreciate each of you and are dedicated to making sure you have everything you need to write the best blog for your team that is out there today!
We also want to thank you the reader. Over 150,000 of you read our sites in our first year and we are proud of that. We hope MyTeamRivals.com is one of your favorite sites and that you visit us every day. Our mission was to make this a great place for you to get insight, news, and discussion about your favorite teams and rivalries.
We look forward to our second year and hope that we laugh 12 months from now at what our sites are today just like we are doing about our site a year ago because of how much they have improved. Please send our links to your friends, share our posts that you enjoy, comment in the comments section, and email us with your feedback at info@myteamrivals.com. We always want to hear from you.
Thank you again!

NFL FREE AGENCY 2009 DAY 6: Cowboys make big splash!!!
This is a surprise to TheCowboysCorner.com because the Cowboys have never shy-ed away from controversial players such as T.O. or Pacman Jones or Tank Johnson and the list goes on. But is does make sense if the Cowboys want to make a and pick up one or even two good players in free agency. Ravens LB Ray Lewis is still out there and now there is the money to get him. This also makes some sense of the mid 2008 season acquisition of WR Roy Williams from Detroit. He is a number one WR on most teams and even though he did not do well the last half of 2008 he should be much improved by the 2009 season with a training camp with Tony Romo under his belt.
The question is what does Jerry Jones have planned next.
March Madness is upon us and MyTeamRivals.com wants to cover every minute of it. We have created our newest weblog March Madness Mayhem. Now all we need is someone (or someones) to write on it. If you or someone you know are interested, please email info@myteamrivals.com.
Enjoy March Madness Mayhem!

Spring Training coverage continues as The Bronx Daily discusses all the Yankees action including their exhibition game with Team USA. Chuck at Dodgers Blue Blog has the latest drama in the Manny Ramirez sweepstakes. Many think Manny will end up in L.A. but what will the fans think of Manny after this stand off? Get the latest here. Jenn continues her live coverage from Florida on Phightin' Phils Phorum. Her pictures and insight of the World Champions is outstanding.
Sean Avery is back in New York and John Tortorella is in as coach but can Steve Rangers catch up to Fernando's Devils who just had a great weekend. See both sides on Rangers Ramblings and Devils Ditch.
MyTeamRivals.com has it all from your favorite teams and their rivalries. Remember, MyTeamRivals.com is written by fans like you, for fans like you.

MyTeamRivals.com enjoyed another busy week during a slow time in the sports world. Spring Training coverage has been vast as Mr Mets Daily discussed the news about Jose Reyes being moved to the third spot in the batting order. Jenn had some fun at Phightin' Phils Phorum with a great article called "Motivational Toys" as Chuck mixed in posts about the Cardinals number 5 pitcher and some interesting team history on Redbirds Rap. New National League Central rival Joe jumped right in with a plethora of posts on Cubs Connection.
The Dolphin Pod had a great feature about Dan Marino. Who knew he designed Charlie Manuel's suit and predicted that the Phillies would win the World Series. It is still winter in most of the country but Spring has sprung for baseball fans as pitchers and catchers reported to Florida and Arizona yesterday. Big stories already rule the day as Alex Rodriquez admitted to taking performance enhancing drugs. MyTeamRivals.com's sites had plenty to say on the subject. Chuck at the Bronx Daily gave his spin as did Mike who covers the cross town rival Mets and put his cross town perspective on it.
Dave at National Pastime and Bill at Phightin' Phils Phorum are both doing series about their predictions of the National League East. Micah at Baseball is My Boyfriend started her annual gush about the Boys of Summer with a Spring Training article.
Football fans are still being treated to great NFL coverage as Ron is basking in the glory of a Superbowl Championship at The Steel Curtain. Rich has had plenty to say at Cowboys Corner and broke a story about a connection between T.O. and Barry Bonds. You would think it was the middle of the NFL season at the Big Blue Blog where Mike posts daily about the 3 time champion Giants. The NFL season may be over, but it is still very much alive at MyTeamRivals.com.
MyTeamRivals.com would like to welcome new writers and sites. Joe is our writer at Cubs Connection while Nicolette joined the team at the Turnpike Series.
